Principle

All products including computers, cell phones, medicine, cosmetics, clothes, construction materials, and cars are all manufactured by chemical reactions with chemical materials. As such, chemistry is the pillar that enables our lives and industry, and its significance will only increase as we walk toward the future.

According to the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences which as the longest history in engineering in the world, future technology will be divided into chemistry and material technology, information and communications, and genetic engineering. The Academy predicts that not a single area of science and technology will be outside the three categories. Therefore, there is no doubt that chemistry is one of the most important sectors for science and technology development in the 21st century.

Objective

The objective is to nurture talents who are capable of leading the development of future chemistry and chemical industry. To this end, students will study basic theories and conduct experiments to strengthen scientific thinking and creativity. In addition, they will have a structural understanding of the basic concepts, and system of chemistry. This will broaden their expertise and the ability to apply what they learn to their lives and work. In addition, they will be able to contribute to social development, and identify the possibility of convergence with other studies.

Sub-major and courses

Students will become high-caliber manpower who can adjust to professional sectors in chemistry, and lead the development of the sector by learning basic concepts and applicability. To this end, they will go through theoretical study, experiment, and application. The major is divided into the following sub-majors and areas.

Outlook after graduation

Chemistry graduates have the following options.

Graduate School of Medicine, Graduate School of Dentistry, Graduate School of Pharmacy
Joining research and development departments for cutting-edge chemical technology in State-funded institutes (KIST) or companies (Samsung, LG, KCC)
Continue studying by entering graduate school in Yonsei or other educational facilities
Linking chemistry with other studies by majoring in another subject in Sinchon Campus
Teaching after gaining a teachers’ license after completing relevant courses
Becoming a public servant after passing various national exams and becoming public servants
Transferring to Sinchon Campus or start a double major
