The College of Liberal Arts was founded when the College of Human Science was divided into the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Science and Technology in 2006. The history of the College of Liberal Arts traces to 1981 when Wonju School, established in 1978, was promoted to Wonju Campus and the department of English Language and Literature was created. The following year, the College of Medicine was separated and the department of Korean Language and Literature opened. In 1984, Wonju Campus was divided into the College of Human Science and the College of Law.

The Disivion of History was set up in 1989, the department of Philosophy opened and other education-related departments were included, forming the basis of the College of Liberal Arts in 1991. The Disivion of Industrial Design was established in 2001, and was divided into Industrial Design and Visual Design to become the basis of the Design department. The College of Liberal Arts was launched in 2007 and encompasses the Human Science departments of Korean Language and Literature, English Language and Literature, History, Philosophy, and Education and Design departments of Industrial Design and Visual Design. The College of Liberal Arts aims to provide interdisciplinary studies by connecting Human Science and Design. The college is nurturing specialized and creative talents who will serve for the global era. Our students will meet the needs of the new era by having thoughts based on human science and artistic intuition and combining insights based on human science and structural creativity.
